 Back home, western NY.

Possibly the last day out with the kayaks before hanging them up for the season.  Ellen, Michael, me.

Out on Alma Pond (really too big to be called such...) ... after Ellen closes the Kopper Keg (her restaurant) - around 6 pm.  Just enough time to see a spectacular sunset, watch the eagles fly back to their nest for the night, watch the crescent moon rise quickly then set.

First time back here since I was knee high to a grasshopper!  Just as I remember, pristine and untouched.

I Love New York!

Kayaking the Hudson
Description:  9 -14 day trip, kayak all day, sleep on shore at night.
Start point:   Waterford, NY (just north of Rensselaer)
End point:     Statue of Liberty, NYC

June 1, 7:00 am.  - cousins Jude & Jet have started.  I will join them for part of the trip, catching up with them Sunday night, sometime before sunset.  I won't know where that meet point is until they pull up kayaks for the night on Sunday evening.  I will spend 3 days, 2 nights with them, continuing their journey downriver towards the Statue of Liberty. They are on the water as you read this.  Keep you posted...

Here are pictures from the trip.  I logged 68 miles in 4 days.  Jude & Jet logged 168 miles!

An incredible experience!  Meeting new people and hearing their stories was a highlight for me.  We never knew for sure where we were going to lay our heads each night, but somehow each night a stranger provided us with a spot to pitch our tents, a bathroom, and [sometimes] a shower - usually a yacht club or a marina.  One-legged Captain Pete and his 3 legged dog Scooter won our hearts.
